Jonathan has been passionate about caring and educating very young children as long as he can remember. He is British from Yorkshire in Northern England and trained to be a nursery nurse and Early Years teacher at Bradford College, graduating in 2008. Over the past decade he has been teaching in a variety of British and bilingual schools in Spain and also Beijing. He has great enthusiasm for teaching through a wider variety of methods as he recognises that all children learn differently and at their own pace. He is particularly excited about teaching at BISS to enable him to get to grips with the PYP Pre-K program through using a Reggio Emilia style approach.
Outside of school, living in Beijing for three years previously, Jonathan knows the city well. He is also married to a local Beijing citizen. He enjoys greatly his time travelling and would like to see more of China, as well as, other Asian countries. He speaks Spanish and would like to continue learning some basic Chinese. He also loves the cinema, walking, music and Chinese cuisine.
Ms. Ariadna NunezVenezuela
Ariadna was born in Valencia, Venezuela. She obtained her bachelors degree in education from Universidad de Carabobo majoring in English. She has been teaching English to children for twelve years, five of which were at a private ESL English Institute. She also worked in Venezuela for three and a half years at Colegio Internacional de Carabobo as a Teacher Associate and two years as a Kindergarten Teacher. In 2016, she decided to move to Beijing to start a new adventure teaching ESL to Pre-K children.
Ariadna is a very passionate and caring teacher. Her objective is to inspire students to be independent and life-long learners, as well as, to encourage them to believe in themselves and try their best. Her other passion is dancing, she has 3 years of experience choreographing musicals for school productions. In her free time, she attends hip-hop, jazz, and yoga classes. Additionally, she enjoys to travel and learn about new cultures and their languages.
Ms. Desiree PortesVenezuela
Ms. Desiree Portes is a 32-year-old university educated teacher from tropical Venezuela. With a major in English, Desiree earned her Bachelor of Education from the University of Carabobo in the beautiful seaside city of Valencia. She has over twelve years of teaching experience and has spent most of that time teaching English as a Foreign Language to different age groups from pre-kindergarten to middle school and high school students.
Desiree is known for her larger-than-life personality, constant smile and care for her students. With a Latin flare and a big smile, her energy in the classroom is matched by her passion for creating a safe, engaging and fun learning environment for her students with a focus on helping students achieve their goals. Desiree’s love of education and commitment to her students are evident from all the loving and enthusiastic comments from students, families and the teachers she has trained. In her spare time, Desiree enjoys dancing, reading, cooking and yoga.
Ms. Desiree has been living and teaching in Beijing for the past two years. She joins the BISS family with enthusiasm for creating incredible memories and a commitment to learning and growth.
Mr. Matt Alessi-FriedlanderUSA
Mr. Matt Alessi-Friedlander is from New York City. He graduated from the State University of New York (SUNY) at Geneseo with a BA in History in 2006. Thereafter, Matt received his MA in Social Studies Education, Secondary Grades from New York University (NYU) in 2009. Matt has taught Social Studies, Humanities, and English Literature in IB and New York State curricula across grades 7-12 and coached baseball and cross-country for seven years in New York and Beijing. Additionally, Matt has served as an advisor and mentor for groups ranging from 3-23.
Aside from teaching, Matt enjoys sports, reading, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. Matt is an enthusiastic baseball, boxing, basketball, American football, and running fan. Most recently, Matt has begun competing in ultra-marathons (distances greater than a marathon). Matt considers Beijing a second home, and looks forward to joining the BISS community.
Ms Summer LiChinese Studies Teacher China
Ms. Summer Li strives to lead her students towards happy learning through fun activities. She joined BISS in 2006.
Ms. Summer Li is originally from Heihe area where Sino-Russian boarder in Heilongjiang province. She came to Beijing for study where she obtained her Diploma in English. She obtained theories of Teaching Chinese as a Second Language from Beijing Language and Culture University. She obtained her Bachelor of Art degree in Elementary Education from Beijing Normal University. Summer loves singing, dancing and traveling.

Ms. Rachel Wu is a local Beijinger. She holds the Teacher Certification in Primary School Chinese.
She obtained the Bachelor degree both on Management Studies and Economics in 2013. She joined BISS at 2014 and really enjoyed working in PYP curriculum. She finds teaching and learning are so interesting; she wants to be a long life learner so she continues working on the Master degree on Educational Management.
In her spare time, she loves traveling around or staying at home to read. She is also a volunteer of China Volunteer Service Federation.
