School Counselling

The responsibilities of school psychologists encompass multiple aspects, aimed at providing students with psychological support and assistance to promote their healthy growth and comprehensive development. Here are the main responsibilities of school psychologists:

  • Psychological Assessment and Diagnosis: Conduct preliminary psychological evaluations of students to understand their mental state, emotional distress, behavioral issues, etc. Through professional psychological tests and observations, identify potential psychological problems in students and provide corresponding diagnoses and suggestions.
  • Psychological Counseling and Treatment: Offer individual or group counseling to students, helping them deal with various emotional distresses, academic pressures, interpersonal relationship issues, etc. Through listening, understanding, and support, psychologists help students develop positive coping mechanisms, improving emotional management and self-regulation abilities.
  • Crisis Intervention and Response: In emergency situations, such as when students face suicidal tendencies, severe bullying, or other psychological crises, psychologists need to intervene promptly, providing emergency aid and support. They work with other school staff to develop response strategies, ensuring student safety, and providing necessary follow-up support and monitoring.
  • Educational Promotion and Training: Carry out mental health education and promotion activities to raise awareness of mental health among students and teachers. By organizing lectures, workshops, and training events, they impart mental health knowledge, helping students and teachers better understand and address psychological issues.
  • Collaboration with Parents and Teachers: Maintain close contact with students' parents and teachers, timely communicating students' psychological conditions and needs. Provide psychological education guidance, helping parents and teachers better understand and support students, collectively promoting students' mental health development.
  • Research and Improvement: Participate in research and improvement efforts for school mental health education, exploring more effective psychological intervention and support methods. Work with school leaders and relevant departments to develop mental health policies and plans, advancing the continuous perfection of school mental health work.

School psychologists must maintain a high level of professionalism and sensitivity, while also possessing good communication skills and empathy. They are committed to creating a positive, healthy, and supportive learning environment, providing the necessary psychological support and assistance to students, and promoting their comprehensive development.
