Activity Week is a programme designed to present BISS students with the opportunity to fulfill BISS curricular objectives outside of the classroom. Students get an opportunity to develop the IB Learner Profiles, Attitudes and Skills within real life situations.
The following components are all included: community and service, cultural awareness, challenging physical activities, bonding, teamwork and fun! There are opportunities to practice Chinese language skills as we focus on China and it’s culture. The community service components range from orphanage visits to building schoolhouses in local villages.
Each year, one trip focuses on The International Youth Award, formerly The Duke of Edinburgh Award, and students complete the adventurous journey component of this award. The Grade 11 trip focuses on Community Service and works together with the Free the Children organisation to teach English and assist with building projects.
Trip destinations include Xian, Suzhou, Inner Mongolia, Hebei, Datong, Ping Yao and Nanjing. Students always come back with lots of smiles and stories that are retold throughout the entire year.
