Beijing BISS International School was founded in 1994 by its sister school, the International School Singapore (ISS), as an independent proprietary, co-educational, English-language day school offering an international curriculum for Kindergarten - 12 students from the expatriate community of Beijing. The 11,000 square meter campus is conveniently located near one of the major expatriate residential areas in central Beijing just off the North Third Ring Road and close to the Olympic Games Village.

BISS is the first International School licensed by The Beijing Educational Commission, and is accredited by the Council of InternationalSchools (CIS), Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), and the National Centre for Curriculum and Textbook Development (NCCT), Ministry of Education, China.  The International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) has granted BISS authorisation to offer the Primary Years Programme (PYP), Middle Years Programme (MYP), and the Diploma  Program (DP).

Over 330 students from 40 different countries attend the School.   BISS faculty members hail from the USA, Canada, Australia, Korea, New Zealand, Singapore, China, the Philippines, Portugal, and the U.K, Most hold advanced degrees, are licensed in their home countries and qualified in their respective fields.  They are each experienced in international education and their diverse backgrounds contribute to the school's international character.

The main building holds more than thirty classrooms, a central library, music, drama and art studios, science labs, design and technology lab, muti-purpose auditorium, cafeteria and adminstration offices. There are seperate play areas for kindergarten and elementary school students, running track and multi-purpose courts for basketball, football, hocky and volleyball and a Rock-climbing all. BISS has a full time private medical clinic situated on the second floor of the building. The clinic has a full time qualified doctor on staff who provides medical services for BISS students and staff.

The weekly newsletter, Broadcast, emails, Studywiz and a constantly expanding website, keep parents informed of school affairs. An active Parent - Teacher Association helps the school community maintain its family feel. 

The BSS academic year consists of two semesters. The first semester starts in August and ends mid December. The second semester runs from January to June.  The Major holiday periods during the year are the Christmas &  New Year Holidays, Spring Holidays and the Summer Holidays. National holidays are also observed.
