Design & Technology
Design and Technology
Design and technology prepares students to be ready to meet with rapidly changing technologies in the new millennium. Students learn a combination of practical and process skills through understanding design, social and environmental issues and industrial practices. Design and technology is an important area of study for ALL young people, linking with art and design, mathematics and science. It enables students to:

- Understand how design and technology affects our lives;
- Contribute to the use and development of technology in our society;
- Relate their personal experience to the work of commerce and industry.

Why Design and Technology?
Design and Technology is a challenge to all young people. It requires initiative, determination, an enquiring mind, management of time and resources and responsibility for decisions and action. Students discover the value of collaboration with others in carrying out their projects and how their designs impact the end users of their product. In the process, they become informed consumers through learning to balance issues involved in compromise and searching for quality at an affordable cost.

DP
Students can follow a tailored course, choosing from a range of topics from the Design and Technology Diploma Program. The topics cover areas like The Designer and the Cycle of Design to Materials Processes and Product Realization.

Students at the Diploma level take on individually chosen projects that require them to undergo a rigorous treatment of design strategies, technical knowledge, manufacturing techniques and understanding of economics and the environment. Aspects of the program provide introduction to particular vocation areas, for example engineering, architecture or manufacturing, which would be relevant to their working life.

MYP
During MYP, students learn to use a wide range of materials to design and make products. They work out their ideas taking into consideration how the products will be used, who are their consumers, how much is production costs and what will be its final appearance. Computer-aided design and manufacture (CAD/CAM) and control software is used as an integral part of designing and making. Students learn from incorporating knowledge and understanding from other areas of the curriculum into their planning and finally evaluate the whole design and make process.
