The Diploma Programme (Grade 11 and 12)
Grades 11 and 12 (The Diploma Programme)

At Beijing BISS International School, our Grade 11 and 12 programme is designed to prepare students to graduate with the International Baccalaureate Diploma. Students have the option of pursuing the full Diploma Programme or following a course that allows them to attain IB Certificates in their strongest subjects.

This ensures all students follow courses of study that are both challenging and fulfilling. The programme also prepares students for life after BISS graduation through an emphasis on community service activities and the study of the philosophy of learning. (Theory of Knowledge)

The IB Diploma Programme

Classes in Grade 11 and 12 are offered at two different levels - Standard Level (SL) and Higher Level (HL). These classes prepare students to sit the external International Baccalaureate certificate examinations in May of their Grade 12 year, which are a requirement to receiving an IB Diploma. To be eligible to take an IB class, students must satisfy the prerequisites for the course prior to starting the class and obtain a teacher recommendation. IB Diploma students sit exams in at least three subjects at HL, study the Theory Of Knowledge course, and must complete an Extended Essay and Creativity, Action, Service (CAS) commitments.

The Certificate Programme

Students who find the full IB programme too challenging can choose the number of subjects in which they wish to sit external examinations. Students may, but are not required, to take any subjects at HL. All students must satisfy the prerequisites for the course prior to starting the class including a teacher recommendation. Certificate students study TOK and are expected to complete a Research Project and their CAS commitments.

Study advantage of DP programme a BISS

We ensure academic excellence and cater for the social, personal and aesthetic needs of our students in a and caring environment. At BISS, we:

- Provide small class sizes. This allows for more individual attention and guarantees that the learning needs of our students are met.

- Offer a friendly and safe environment in which to study. We are a small school and all our students are valued as members of the community. Any issues that may affect a student’s learning are quickly detected and addressed by educator and school leaders.

- Have a proven record of success at the IB Diploma over 7 years. Over the years our students have gained entrance to some of the most prestigious universities in the world.

- Are proud of our dedicated and highly qualified teachers. They have all been trained in the IB Diploma and have experience working with students from many countries.

- Strive to respond to student needs. Our wide range of subject choice is testament to this. We are innovative and if there is sufficient demand for a subject them we will meet it. This is why, for example, we are now offering Japanese A1, Korean A1 and Chinese A1. We are also offering with quality virtual courses.

- Understand the need to improve constantly and evaluate what we offer, for example, the Creativity, Action and Service (CAS) programme has been restructured so that students now have more ownership of it. In accordance with changes made by the IB Organization, students will be expected to finish CAS by October of Grade 12, thus allowing them more time to focus on their studies in the final months of the year.

CAS Program  Creativity, Action and Service

All BISS IB students must complete the Creativity, Action and Service (CAS) program during Grades 11 and 12. Students are expected to complete approximately 150 hours spread evenly across the 3 categories. In Grade 11 all students will have the opportunity to obtain many service hours during Activity Week which takes place at the Free the Children school at Gu Fu Pu. BISS students take part in teaching roles as well as helping out with community service in the form of manual labour and preparing and building the school. Students also have many opportunities to complete their CAS requirements via the BISS ASA (After school Activity) program.
